The Lie of Love

With a daughter crippled by cerebral palsy and a son overshadowed by his sister's needs, Darcy Blake knows the heavy burden of motherhood more than most. Not only that, but support from her self-absorbed husband, Ged, is in short supply.

When her daughter, Sophie, is given the chance of a life-changing operation, Darcy embarks on a furious fundraising campaign to pay for the trip to the US specialist. Sophie’s plight catches the imagination of the whole community as friends and family get involved in organising events to help the cause.

At one such event Darcy catches the attention of Harry Simmons, young son of her friend, Julia. Darcy hasn’t seen Harry since he went off to university and she is shocked by the change in him… and by her attraction to him. But Harry is seventeen years her junior and strictly off limits.

The fundraising campaign continues to run at full steam, but Darcy’s frantic activity and absence from home drives a wedge between her and Ged. Feeling increasingly isolated from her husband and starved of affection, Darcy begins to succumb to Harry’s flattering attention. Against her better judgement, they embark on an affair. For a while, Darcy manages to juggle both home and love life, but the situation soon spirals out of control. Darcy stands to lose everything, and if their affair comes out both families will be torn apart.
