Description
Lurking in the darkness is something more terrifying than shadows
Shadow people lurk across the broken down Alaskan suburb of Deen, dragging away their screaming victims into thin air. As the shortest day of the year approaches, wildlife begins to die and mysterious murders and suicides begin to plague the small suburb. With each passing night, more of the town's inhabitants lose control of their minds, killing those around them and then themselves while the shadows hunt those who remain.
Little by little, the horrifying events that transpire in Deen take their toll on the town's survivors, slowly driving them to the brink of their own depression and chipping away at what little is left of their humanity. As the town quivers in fear, the shadow people lurk across the suburb, taking away their defenseless victims and forcing others to commit unthinkable acts of terror. With uncertainty growing, the questions among the survivors only increase.
Those who manage to survive begin to realize that there is something more sinister at work than meets the eye and even something more evil lurking in the shadows, hunting down every last person in Deen. In the final days before the winter solstice, there is an eerie feeling that the shortest day of the year brings with it the end - or possibly the beginning - to something far more horrifying than anything the survivors could begin to imagine.
(Approx. 93,000 words / Approx. 370 paperback pages)
Excerpt:
Jack's screams were muffled by the sharp stones that hid beneath the surface of the black snow, cutting his face while a shadowy creature dragged him to Hell. At least he imagined that's where the creature was taking him considering the sins he had committed in his lifetime. When he had spotted the shadow creature hovering inches in front of him, the creature stared back at him with its eyeless face that had no discernible features and did nothing. He had tried to escape. Tried to run from the shadow like cattle fleeing from wolves, propelling himself further into the forest where he had lost his hunting group. The creature had barely moved before it knocked him out cold, staring at him with its featureless face and body that appeared to be a living shadow of a person, but alive nonetheless.
He tried to break free, but where he felt the shadow's hands crush his shoulder, his hands felt nothing, as if the air itself was holding him down. All he could tell himself was that this was it. He deserved this. He had killed many times, even children during his service to his country. He had committed acts unfathomable to society and now he would pay for it wherever this monster sought to take him.
