Felidae: The Mulik Crisis

The Felidaeans, a cat like people, have reached a pinnacle of civilization only to discover that they are in an evolutionary trap. Like the panda requires bamboo to survive, so do the Felidaeans need mulik. This vital food, miluk, is a liquid produced from special stones. The stones produce the liquid through internal radiation and now after centuries the stones are failing. Worse, there are no new sources on the planet prompting their scientists to search other worlds for a new source. The clock is ticking as three Felidaeans, a Siberian, Australian, and Siamese, race against time for the survival for their species. Wrapped into this adventure is a mystery. Where does this new technology come from and has this event occurred in the past?
