If that little monster doesn’t stop screaming I’m going to fold him up and stuff him in the overhead compartment. Alex focused his professional glare on the brat in 4E as the child continued to treat the entire cabin to a most epic tantrum.
Alex had always wanted to fly. When he was little he’d dreamed of being a pilot but things hadn’t quite worked out as he’d planned. Not that he disliked his job as a flight attendant, but as with any position that involves dealing with the public there were always going to be those with an inflated sense of self-importance who seemed intent on making his life a living hell. On the upside, these irritations were fleeting and the perpetrators soon disappeared. Thankfully, the majority of the passengers weren’t horrible; in fact some were absolute sweethearts, who seemed to have grasped the concept that one doesn’t need to be a demanding troll in order to be treated to good customer service.
Granted some days it felt like he was little more than a glorified hall monitor/waiter/indentured servant, but there were still quite a lot of perks. He got to visit lots of foreign cities while working and was able to get ridiculously cheap flights during his time off. Not to mention some of the eye candy on display – particularly around the summertime; when Pride events in various locations around Europe filled the planes heading off to Berlin, Barcelona and the like, with all manner of gorgeous gays.
Then there was the matter of the Mile High Club, which Alex had not only joined, but was practically president of – given all the highflying hi-jinks he had gotten up to. It was quite thrilling at times with the prospect of being caught by co-workers or passengers.
Alex had been with Europe Air for about three years now. He had completed his two-month training just after his 20th birthday in fact. So far he had only worked for the domestic branch, Europe Express, which offered short haul trips throughout the Continent. Even though they were a low cost airline, they still catered to those who had a bit more money to splash about the place with their small fleet of Airbus A320s all having a small section devoted to business class.
Alex was based in London and while he loved the bustling metropolis he relished the chance to spend time in more relaxed locales. His schedule kept him quite busy and this week was packed with daily trips to Paris, which meant three trips a day and spending alternating nights there and in London. The airline had serviced apartments in most of their destinations, as they found it more cost effective than hotels and the staff appreciated the extra creature comforts. They had to share rooms but the crews usually got along well enough and sometimes the prospect of sharing a bed with a co-worker wasn’t that unappealing.
On this schedule he was working with Sam and Ryan, guys he’d worked on and off with since he’d started with the airline. Both were quite good company and they all performed well together – in more ways than one – often joking and helping each other through even the most trying of shifts. Sam was the one that had given Alex his nickname of ‘Mile High Cub’ – due to his hairy, slightly stocky, but solid, build and reputation for meeting any needs his more handsome passengers may have.
