Very few people are aware that New Zealand airmen played a prominent part in the aerial defence of Malaya and Singapore in 1941-42, They were out numbered too many times to count, Young inexperienced airmen flew against battle hardened Japanese pilots. The fighters they the flew were the outclassed Brewster Buffalo.They flew until almost all their planes were either shot out of the sky or destroyed on the ground by bombing and strafing. They flew replacement Hurricanes that arrived almost too late to take part in the battle. History tells us the the outcome of the Battle was pre-determined before it began.
