The Empress chuckled low, the entire stance of her body changing. She became more liquid, like she was aware of every muscle in her body and hell yes she knew how to use them all – every last one. I flicked my eyes down the length of her, noticing her indolent smile.

I remembered that smile. Right before I shot her she had that smile.

She moved closer but I held my ground. I’ll back down from crazy when I’m dead.

I raised my chin. “What is this, Empress?” Or whomever, whatever I'm speaking to.

She laughed wild and free, and somehow sexy with it. “Why Captain, it is destiny. Our destiny.”

Her smile more unlucky than a handful of three footed rabbits.

“Your destiny.”
