Description

Caesar inspects his flagship in Aquatania. Decimus Brutus promises the new fleet will be ready in 30 days. While on leave the Centurion kills 2 muggers after leaving a bordello. Then he heads to Gaul to join Caesar. While he waits for his fleet to be built Caesar is informed by a spy of enemy movements. The Suebi want to expand their territory & destabalise Gaul. Caesar decides to punish them. He sends the Centurion & Tribune Gaius Volusenus deep behind enemy lines to find a suitable place where Caesar’s army can cross the Rhine. The Centurion is swept downstream & captured by Gallic warriors. Before they can take him back to Germany they are killed by Badicus, leader of the speculatores who has been following the Centurion. The Centurion & Volusenus return to the Roman camp. Caesar informs his Generals the Tencteri, Usipetes & Menapii threaten all of Gaul. Caesar learns the Tencteri & Usipetes are heading toward the Meuse River. The Centurion refuses a promotion. Caesar’s army moves to another camp. The Centurion & his century guard the baggage train that is attacked by German cavalry. The attack gives Caesar the justification he needs. Caesar makes conditional peace with Commius & Amdriorix, German envoys. A spy informs Caesar of enemy troop movements. Lucius Aemilius neutralizes enemy cavalry. Archers guard the baggage train. The Centurion knows Caesar is going to attack the Germans. While marching to a new camp they see remnants of the defeated Roman cavalry. However Lucius Aemilius has located the German camp. The separation of German cavalry from their infantry gives Caesar a tactical advantage. The following day the Romans attack the Germans. No quarter is given. Using flaming arrows, javelins & pilum the Centurion & Marcus charge the enemy. A spy tells Caesar the Senate wants to impeach him & suggests a distraction. Caesar builds a bridge across the Rhine. The Centurion & his century are sent into Germany, crossing the Rhine in boats to see if a large German force awaits Caesar. Going farther than ordered they are attacked by thousands of Germans marching towards the bridge & are trapped because the Germans are between them & the bridge. Caesar assumes the Centurion is dead & invades Germany. Caesar makes an alliance with the Ubii. The Tencteri & Usipetes retreat. Caesar ravages the lands of the Sugambri. When the Germans change direction the Centurion makes a dash for the bridge only to find it has been burned. He crosses the Rhine in boats & finds the Roman camp deserted. Badicus escorts the Centurion & his century to Aquatania where Caesar is preparing to invade Britain. After he reports to Caesar the Roman army invades Britain. There is a battle on the beachhead. The Britons retreat. A storm destroys the Roman fleet, marooning the Romans. The Centurion & Volusenus find the transport ships. The 10th Legion is attacked while gathering grain. The Romans defeat the Britons in a huge battle. The Centurion & his century are attacked by marauding Morini & are saved from certain death by speculatores. The Centurion finally admits he is at heart a speculatore.
