In October 1985 Sylvia Seegrist, aged 25, went on a shooting spree at a Pennsylvania shopping mall She killed three people and wounded seven others before being disarmed. From the age of fifteen Sylvia was in and out of mental hospitals having being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Her own parents were terrified of her and what she might do. Her mother had tried for years to keep her daughter locked up, but to no avail. She once wrote an article on life with her daughter and in it she wrote “What do you need? Blood on the floor?”
Her parents feel that their daughter was severely let down by the mental health system and its revolving doors.
