This short story is about B.B. Rivers, the hero of my action/adventure, humorous mystery novels which are set in beautiful Austin, Texas, and how and why he got downwardly departed (fired) from the Austin Police Department. It takes place before Hippie Hollow – Murder on a Nude Beach. During that kickoff novel in the series, B.B. becomes first a bouncer in a cowboy bar on 6th Street and works his first case as a private investigator.

Author’s Note:

This story came flowing out of me like a flash flood in the Texas Hill Country during the rainy season and I almost got swept away by it, but I hung onto my truck and made it across the low water crossing. How’s that for a metaphor? Just wanted to see if you were paying attention. Actually, this little story came from requests from many readers who wanted to know what B.B., Austin’s most lovable P.I., was like during his days as an Austin cop.
