📖 Description
It is generally said that the Islamic government of Sudan did not approve the novel and it was banned on religious grounds.
Although the novel is written by a Sudanese author, it is said that he had written the book with international readers in his mind. Denys Johnson Davies was his English translator and both of them worked closely while translating the novel before it was ready to be published.
The author was quite fluent in both English and Arabic, but he decided to write the book originally in Arabic, perhaps to show his obligation to his nation and to express his national identity.
