A Visit to India: Three Weeks in Khajuraho

A most unusual massage, an art contest in a poor village, discussions about Gandhi in the hotel garden with a yogi, rooftop yoga classes at dawn, rides to holy places in a tuk tuk, these are just a few of the unusual experiences of the author during her three week stay in Khajuraho, India, site of the famous Western Temples with the kama sutra carvings. Most tourists who visit Northern India will stop for a day in Khajuraho to see the famous Western Temples with the Kama Sutra carvings. Such a trip introduced the author and her daughter to the town. They enjoyed the area so much that they returned for a three-week stay. Visiting surrounding small villages and other off the beaten track places near Khajuraho provided the author and her daughter with interesting experiences as well as a better understanding of the culture. The essays in this book include descriptions of an unusual massage, a typical Indian extended family, an art contest in a poor village, an encounter with India medicine, yoga lessons, life in a local hotel, and others. Photographs are also included.
