Joseph Fort Newton was a minister and notable masonic scholar. He wrote prolifically on the subject of Freemasonry. This piece is a lecture he gave at the Grand Lodge of Iowa in 1913. In it he speaks about the Universal beauty of Freemasonry, he recounts part of Leo Tolstoy’s great book, War and Peace, which involves an atheist and masonic initiation.
