Description
My mom was supposed to go through six months of chemotherapy to shrink the cancer in her breast so that the surgeon would have an easier time removing the cancer and the breast. She went through the six months of chemotherapy, but after that, she decided not to have her breast removed. The chemotherapy had done such a good job of healing her breast that she thought that she was cured. At that point, the cancer was only in her left breast. I believe that it was at a Stage II level.
After three years had passed, and when she was finally forced to seek treatment again, she no longer needed the surgery because the cancer had removed the breast for her. What followed after that was a collapsed lung, five years of chemotherapy, anti-estrogen treatments, PET scans, and visits to the oncologist. The cancer had become metastatic and spread to her bones and the lining of her right lung. She now had Stage IV Breast Cancer.
This is the story of my mom’s nine year battle with breast cancer and the decisions that she faced while dealing with it. It's a short book, but maybe it will help others who are dealing with cancer issues.
