Tired of the typical boring guides? This guide tries to do the same as the “ask a local”, but it is (maybe!) better organized and more complete. In all our guides, we hire a “local” writer, and then we edit to be sure that the guide is complete, unique, fun and interesting. Typically we won’t add maps or photos (just a few), since you can have all that on the internet, and we like to give you only unique and original content that you won’t find easily.

Here is a brief description of the guide:

Welcome to Peru! This comprehensive guide has been put together by a local to guide you through the once in a lifetime trip to Cusco and the famed Machu Picchu, one of the new 7 wonders of the world. Following a short introduction about the country of Peru in chapter 1, arriving in Lima you will be prepared to arrange the travel specifics as soon as possible, as it is all laid out in Chapter 2: Traveling deep into the lands of the Incas. Your personal guide likes to say “A prepared traveler is a happy tourist”, so read up chapter 3 and learn all about how to prepare yourself for this travel, as far as booking the permits necessary for these trips and choosing the driest season to visit the sites.

You’re finally in Cusco, the old capital of the Inca Empire and Chapter 4 describes the best places to visit in this lovely mountain town. We’re off to the Sacred Valley of the Incas that stretches between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Find out the most important sights in Chapter 5. Before you arrive at Machu Picchu, brush up on the history of the place in Chapter 6. Then, the classic question: To Inca Trail or not to Inca Trail. Find out in chapter 7 what the classic trail entails and decides if you’re up to it. Otherwise, don’t worry; there are other options to get up there contrary to popular belief. Chapter 8 covers the sights of Machu Picchu and what to expect when you are finally up there, while chapter 9 presents Machu Picchu’s higher up in the Andes brother, Wayna Picchu. More difficult to climb as it is located 300 meters above and the steps are pretty steep, but worth it for the incomparable views of Machu Picchu below.

All the hiking will probably leave you famished. In Chapter 10, we talk about what to expect as far as “Food up in the Andes” and what are the most popular dishes you should savor. In Chapter 11 we talk about the kind of accommodation you will encounter when you visit Machu Picchu and Cusco or the Sacred Valley, including some recommendations that are very popular and experience enhancing.

Like a good local, in Chapter 12 I tell you all about how to keep safe during your travels and give you all the tips you need to ensure you have a problem free journey. The book ends with my thoughts on the travel you are about to embark on and we part ways by giving you another little bit of Quechua wisdom, a typical greeting. Tutañam, ripusaq, meaning, “It is dark already, I'm going”. See in Peru and have a safe and fulfilling journey!
