Thomas Paine was an English-American political activist, philosopher, political theorist and revolutionary.

Paine is today best known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Paine authored many highly influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, and was an important source of inspiration in the decision to declare independence in 1776.
