The Automaton

Based on true events, The Automaton is a novella set in 1940's Scotland. Lucy, a young widower, embarks on an affair with a successful businessman, George Collins, only to find that he is embroiled in a web of deceit and danger. George has been invited by Edgar Allan Poe to take part in a chess match against an unusual opponent; the chess playing Turk, an automaton which is being toured around Europe as a miracle of science. But the automaton is not what is seems, and Lucy becomes involved in a fight to rescue George's soul from the machine's makers and the diabolical secret hidden within.
