The Last Road Home

Fifteen-year-old Maria Espinoza is returning home to a Catholic boarding school when her plane plunges into darkness and emerges in a world with no landing place other than the broad Ohio River. Lost with only a few survivors, Maria braves the river to reach out for help, and her only hope becomes a boy from a small town in Kentucky that has found itself in trouble as well.

Sixteen-year-old Josh Davis is a haunted boy who has been labeled as autistic because of the voices that rule his mind. That all changed the day the world turned dark, and where a town once stood, only an inexplicable forest remained. When a call for help comes from the airwaves, Josh and Ethan, a seventeen year old with his own agenda, set out to find the survivors of the plane crash through a wilderness where only traces of roads and buildings remain.

While Josh faces wild dogs, the raging Ohio River, and his Eagle-Scout-With-An-Attitude companion, Maria must keep her small group of survivors alive, despite physical and emotional injuries. Neither has ever been a leader, but the end of the world might just be the best thing that ever happened to them…if they can survive long enough to find each other.
