Consider it to be kind of cliffs notes for Herman Wouk's "Don't Stop the Carnival." While some people might dispute the events described in this book, and some of what you read is probably embellished in some way (and perhaps a little self-inflicted,) anyone who has been to the same place as Captain Adams will find plenty to identify with.
Captain Adams pulls no punches as he tells his stories, each one more outlandish as the last, about building a wildly successful business that brings out the most despicably greedy behavior from plenty of people that should know better in this day and age of instant Internet communication and self-publishing. I've lived in-country for over four years, and I can assure you that things can happen as described.
As a non-native, you're everyone's target: Everyone has their hand out, from the lowliest street criminals up to the mayor's friends and even the police and the government. And if you don't give willingly, they'll take what they want, with total impunity. While the names have been changed to protect the guilty, there's enough truth here to give pause to anyone with a dream to live the easy island life! ????? …….5 STAR REVIEW ON AMAZON.COM…. !!!!!....
Some have said its part Rum Diary , part Lazlo Letters and if you add in a mix of Don’t Stop the Carnival you end up with 100% Capt’n Adams……

The first book of this trilogy was based on a true story, this one might be? Some parts of the story are based on true activities and some of the events are creations of the author’s vivid mind. The characters in this book are characters in real life, but the names and locations of these characters will always remain the authors secret.
The location for this book is set in the sunny Caribbean around a set of fictitious islands, just off the coast of reality. There have been pirates there before and they just keep coming back to Goatan Island in the search of the booty. While on a return trip to the island the Capt’n in this book found more booty than he bargained for, the King’s golden booty, and the amazing booty on Miss Ana, a Spanish goddess.

The last fifty days had been a battle of emotions and realities for all of us. So many things had changed in such a short period of time and our futures were anything but stable.
After all of us escaping Goatan, Conduras with a small fortune in gems and cash from King Julio’s underground vault, we had anticipated life becoming simple and carefree in Africa.
That dream was exactly that, a dream. It seems the old pirate curse from the island was following us really close, or maybe it was just the devil himself. After all we had done back across the ocean; we deserved anything that came our way. What started out to be a simple safe robbery had turned into another nightmare on the Bay Islands of Conduras.
Bad luck was following the “blood money “, or was it after us? We did not know either way. It came down hard on us all over the next few months, and this is the story.
