In the hard times of the Great Depression, high-schooler Randy Watchman moves with his family from the farm he d lived in all his life to a new house, a new town, a new school and virtually a new life. When Randy is assaulted on the way home from school one fall day, his father has no other thought than that the attack is based on racial prejudice because the Watchmans are descendent from Native American tribes across the country. But the secret that Randy cannot tell anyone, not even his father, is much more brutal and senseless. In less than a year, Randy is changed from the happy, secure boy his family had always known him as into a troubled, depressed individual unwilling to confide in anyone, family or not. But his brother is determined that Randy will not be ruined for good and makes it his own personal mission to save his younger brother from destruction- self-inflicted or otherwise.
