Waiting in the Wings of Classroom Drama!: Re-conceptualising theatre in drama education as a culturally relevant site of practice through the lens of cultural psychology.

A critical look at relevant drama education literature along with discussions with practitioners and teachers which will hopefully show that drama education primarily presents drama as a means for personal development or as a tool to be used across the curriculum and that within these traditions drama and theatre have become dichotomised, with much of theatre craft relegated to the sidelines of the drama classroom. The focus and practice of theatrical history, tradition, craft and skill, script work, roles and responsibilities, and performing to a pubic audience are often overlooked in the field of drama education. The experience and art of theatre rarely finds its place as the core component in justifying the place of drama in the curriculum.
