We live in a broken world where many churches need to make more of an impact. This book offers a biblical and theological basis for revitalizing a church that is failing to enjoy success in its work. Understanding the biblical view of what the church is and what it is supposed to do are the key to any strategy for renewal. The search for renewal for the church must begin with a fresh look at Jesus Christ, the Lord of the church. To start elsewhere is to write the agenda for the church out of our own inadequate insights. Jesus himself should furnish the pattern for our understanding of the church and its ministry. A renewed church, one which knows what its nature is, and is committed to its purpose, will make a difference in its corner of the world. It will truly be the salt, light, and leaven that Jesus talked about.

This book is the result of the author having taught a seminary course on the nature and mission of the Christian church each academic year for 25 years. The author has served as pastor of three churches. He also served as interim pastor of 23 churches while he was a seminary professor.
