I No Longer Belong

They say that time is not our friend
But sometimes I feel like I’m a child again
Back when I never had a voice
Back when I never had a choice
Back when no ever really heard
Beyond my pleading first word
I can still feel that pat on the head
And remember that terrible feeling of dread
When I knew they were never going to hear me
When I recognized they would never really see
That I had something worth hearing to the end
Instead of only receiving that smiling condescend
I have the sudden urge to scream and stomp my feet
And show the world I no longer belong in the backseat
