Astrology is an all encompassing limb of Vedas. Vedas are our heritage in them is stored essence of all the knowledge.
Astrology in the beginning was based on Nakshtra or Constellation. The constellation are visible in the sky they are located in the zodiac. Zodiac is elliptical. The ecliptic cut the celestial equator at an angle of 23 1/2 °. The constellation at this point is Ashwani. This is also the beginning of the sign Aries . This is also called the first point of Aries. All measurements of the zodiac commence from this point.
Our Rishis divided the 360 degree of the zodiac into 27 segments of 13 degree 20 minutes. Each of this 27 segment is one Nakshatra. The main star in this segment is taken for naming this Nakshatra Moon on and average takes one day to traverse one Nakshatra of 13 degree 20 minute.
In the course of time Zodiac was divided in 12 equal segments 30 degree each. This 12 sign in to 30 degree is 360 degree are Whole Zodiac
