Martina and Colum are not doing well. They both admit that their relationship has seen better days, but they don’t know what to do about it. All of their friends think that they should break up, but Colum isn’t so sure. He convinces Martina to recreate their first date: a picnic by the river. Although they find two beautiful, gold necklaces in the river, the date goes terribly, and ends up with each of them feeling worse about their relationship than they did before. They both go out and end up in bed with someone else that night, and when they wake up...
They each have the necklace they found...and one more thing...they’re in medieval Scotland.

EXCERPT FROM BOOK
The trip would become a monument to their relationship. It was something that both of them could not help but remember fondly. The trip ended up having very little to do with celebrating their mutual graduation of college, or of seeing Scotland. It became all about their budding love. They fell for each other with a stunning immediacy that perhaps should have alarmed them. But they were young, in love, and in an immaculately beautiful foreign country.

They had heard the horror stories. Don’t fall in love with someone in a foreign country. Once you come back, things will never be the same. But they believed they were different. Their love wasn’t about Scotland. It was about them. They were Colum and Martina. They were meant to be. If that wasn’t the case, then how come they were both moving to San Diego? How could it not be meant to be? This became a mantra for the two of them over the years, and at first it seemed to have the desired effect.

“You love me less yet?” Colum asked one day, six months after they had returned from Scotland. They were already living together, unpacking boxes and sleeping on a mattress on the floor.
“So much less,” she joked. “This is difficult for me to tell you right now, but you should probably go.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is a 25000 word stand-alone story with an HEA, so no cliff-hangers! Story contains mature themes and language, and is intended for 18+ readers only.
