You might not know, but it is one of the most present sciences in our daily life. In fact, it is so present that it has become common sense.
Nearly all objects which we use every day practice the application of thermodynamics. Vehicles, heat pumps, refrigerators, coffee machines, cars and air conditioning systems are only a few examples for it. All of these are objects that undergo an exchange in energy, or transfer of heat. This is exactly what thermodynamics is concerned with.
The Greek word thermodynamics itself clarifies the concept - “thermo” meaning relating to heat, and its connection with dynamics, meaning work. It is the study of internal motions of many body systems, a part which is dealt more by chemistry, and a discipline with a very wide range of applications.
In this project, you will not only be provided with basic knowledge of energy and introduced to several new terms. More specifically, we are going to shortly cover topics of energy conservation, the laws of thermodynamics, and also the applications of thermodynamic systems. We shall try to answer the questions of heat. What controls the flow of heat from one body to another? Why is heat transferred from hot to cold? Does energy of an object increase when work is done on it? And most importantly, what is the relationship between heat and mechanical work?
It is important to understand the topic of thermodynamics, since it appears to explain much about the world around us.
