Description
Mike had a plan. He couldn t get his mind off of Milly. Last time they were together she gave him the impression that she was too good for him. That s when his pride took over: Fine, I don t need her anyway! He was dating another girl at the time, so he thought, Forget her. That was two months ago. It didn t work though. He found himself thinking about her even more.
Maybe I was wrong; maybe she does like me. I know! If she really does like me she ll go to the beach with me. I ll text her and see what she says.
After anxiously awaiting her reply for ten minutes, he got the heebe-jeebies and couldn t sit still. He jumped up, got his swim trunks and a towel, hopped in his car and headed for her duplex in Stockton. If she says yes, I ll already be on my way, he dearly hoped. It seemed forever, and still no response. He tossed his phone on the seat as he raced on. Finally, he heard the arrival of a text message. He looked over and grabbed his phone. One quick glance let him know it was Milly s reply CRASH!
Robby saw the whole ugly mess happen in slo-mo. He was a quarter mile behind the Prius when he saw it veer directly into the path of the oncoming truck. Shocked, Robby frantically prayed, God, don t let anybody die!
