From Misery to Joy: Not all calamities are meant for harm

Have you ever had an experience where it appeared as if life had defeated you only to discover that it was actually the marking of a turning point and new beginnings?
From Misery to Joy is a short story giving a glimpse into an episode of depression I once experienced, one which turned my life in a way I never imagined.

This story was inspired by a revelation that God gave me during one of my 21 nights at Vista (depression) clinic. This revelation came through a scripture which God inspired me to read in Jeremiah 29:11. This was no new verse to me except this time around the Holy Spirit asked me to read it in the context of the verses above it, specifically from Jeremiah 29:4-7. It was through those verses that I saw a link between them and the depressive situation I had found myself in. In that link, I received a new perspective about my situation, a perspective which catalyzed my road to healing. I also learnt that the success of our enemies in causing havoc in our lives is not indicative that they are powerful, but rather how far and how willing God is in letting them appear to have won.

This short story gives an overview of the events which led me into depression and how through them I discovered a truth I never knew about myself. It is this truth which empowered and persuaded me into finally serving my passion in a manner which God had purposed me to from the beginning of my life.

It is my hope that through this story, the reader will be able to apply these lessons in their own lives and be equipped to see beyond what they are facing or may face in future.
