The business kinds

Do we own anything in this world? Money, honours, fame and a myriad of other things we strive for, are purely ephemeral. Yet they consume most of our waking hours. We devote entire lives quenching ourselves with the best things that life has to offer. Strangely yet, we end up feeling empty and remain grossly unaware of what we really long for - an intense intimacy, an ultimate blissfulness through a forever union with God. And if we ever set out in quest of that elusive happiness, more often than not, we will encounter charlatans and fake gurus ready with their litany of phrases, dry and airy philosophies. But sadly philosophy by any name can only feed the mind giving us the illusion of spiritual progress but will always remain devoid of divine grace.

Take a casual detour across any city in our country, and one will find exposed to the plights of the masses struggling with lives on footpaths, huts and lowly tenements. Besides casting irritated glances at them, we tend to largely remain callous and apathetic to their presence. Where do they come from? Who are these people?

But then this can be a story of just about anyone of us.

Simple and yet thought-provoking, this essay is but a poignant narrative of one such impoverished man from the back of beyond. Struggling for existence and caught in-between whirlwinds of kismet, his decision to migrate to a city ends in disaster leading to shattered dreams and broken lives.
