Delia Rising: A Ballet in Three Acts

The only time Victoria feels alive anymore is when she watches Delia, her 17-year-old daughter, dance. When Delia wins a contract to perform with New York Contemporary Ballet Theatre, Victoria must revisit her own past as a hopeful dancer in NYC. Along the way, she is forced to confront her loneliness and explore how being a victim of childhood sexual abuse has affected her entire life—including the decisions she makes as a mother.

When Delia goes to New York City for the summer without Victoria, she realizes for the first time that she has control over her own life and has a relationship with an international choreographer who is more than twice her age. Ultimately, a horrible truth is uncovered that can ruin all their lives.

Delia Rising: A Ballet in Three Acts is a dark, cautionary tale to dance moms, exploring the relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter as they navigate their hopes, dreams, and desires against the backdrop of the professional dance world. Set in contemporary times and telling both Victoria’s and her daughter’s stories, Delia Rising incorporates the magical aspects of classical ballet and the plot twists of Ancient Greek tragedy to tell the story of a teenager’s coming-of-age and a mother’s struggle with letting go.
