Description
The Last Known Recording Of The Original Lynyrd Skynyrd In Concert Formed in Jacksonville, Florida as early as 1964, Lynyrd Skynyrd has sold almost 30-million records in the United States alone, across the 5 decades that they have been a working band. Only in 2019 did the group announce a farewell tour. Skynyrd s fifth studio album, 1977's Street Survivors, turned out to be a showcase for guitarist/vocalist Steve Gaines, who had joined the band just a year earlier and was making his studio debut with them. Recorded at Muscle Shoals studios between April and August 77, the group performed a number of shows in the US prior to completing the record. On July 13th Lynyrd Skynyrd performed at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where they played a dynamic show which was recorded for live FM broadcast, transmitted along the North-East coast. The original Lynyrd Skynyrd would only perform another eight shows before tragedy struck; a plane in which they were travelling, following a gig in Greenville, SC, crashed in heavily forested woodland in Mississippi, instantly killing main-man Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and backing singer Rosie Gaines (Steve s elder sister), as well as the band s tour manger, the pilot and the co-pilot. Other members of the group were seriously injured. Previously unreleased, this broadcast, believed to be the final recording of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd in existence, is released here for the first time and stands as testament to what a superb live attraction this seminal rock-band remained right up to the end of their most celebrated period.
