This rhetoric/worktext is designed for developmental writing courses that focus on paragraph writing skills in preparation for essay writing. This text stresses the four keys to effective writing - unity, support, coherence and sentence skills. Student writing topics are both experiential and odjective - they aim to teachg the student how to develop an idea and draw upon their own reasoning abilities provided form their own experiences. Updated and revised examples, plus exercises and writing assignments should teach students all the skills they need. in this new edition, chapter one offers an overview of the basics of effective writing. The section, "important factors in writing" has been moves to the beginning of the text and features invention strategies such as keeping a journal and prewriting in the form of diagramming or mapping. The chapter on writing a research paper has been revised, incorporating a complete student research paper and the chapter on using the library includes current computerized research facilities. In addition the "introduction to paragraph development" has been expanded to include writing for a specific purpose and audience, using peer review and using a personal checklist.
