An Introduction to Political Economy

The primary focus of this text is on the political and econ- omic institutions that define the political economy. The author takes a historical approach to the development of concepts such as the market and democracy, tracing the evolution of economic and political institutions from the Greeks and Romans through the middle ages, and following the development of capitalism to the world economy. The broader discussion in the book focuses on the distribution of power and the role of the state in guaranteeing economic and pol- itical freedoms. The text is written for first or second year college or university courses.
