Magnetic Properties of Materials

Magnetic materials find an ever-increasing use in a great variety of devices ranging from dc to optical frequencies; another distinction can be made between reversible and irreversible applications. In present-day advanced technology the operation of each device depends critically upon a great number of diverse characteristics of the materials. Thus this book treats the magnetic properties of materials in connection with their applications. In order to increase the readability and limit the use of the book, only those properties and backgrounds which have some practical implication are discussed. Eight chapters have been written by experts in their fields, treating such topics as chemistry and technology of ferrites, radio and microwave properties; the use in optical devices; switching characteristics of materials for recording tape, thin films, and curves. The chapters give enough detail to be of use to engineers, and the topics are treated in sufficient depth to be of interest to physicists and chemists who want to study magnetism of solids.
