WRITING FOR CHANGE: A COMMUNITY READER is a thematic reader designed for the first or second course in Freshmen Composition. It provides a rich selection of readings that address issues concerning family, community, work, education, health, diversity, and the environment. The innovative approach of WRITING FOR CHANGE is to enable students to move from private reflection to public statement and to an active role in changing their community on issues of public concern that bind us together as a community. This strong contemporary reader can be used in any composition course and can also be used with the companion handbook, A GUIDE FOR CHANGE, to develop a writing course that focuses on community based writing.
