Critical Thinking and Persuasive Argument: On Things That Really Matter, Politics, Morality, Money and Religion educates students on the basics of critical thinking and persuasive arguments. By exploring myths, fallacies in perceptions and suggestions for analyzing long documents and texts, students will learn why good reasons are not enough to win arguments. Learn why your stockbroker is probably not acting in your best interests. Learn why we do not elect the best political leaders, why the Bible cannot be taken literally and why all arguments by analogy have serious problems. Learn why many moral issues have no absolute right or wrong, why ads cannot be trusted, and why we cannot believe the health claims of the drug companies.
