This book makes accessible the work of the first Indian to write and publish in English, Dean Mahomed (1759-1851). It also provides a detailed life-history of Dean Mahomed, together with related historical analyses and assessments. His book, The Travels of Dean Mohamet [sic], is reprinted here for the first time since its publication in 1794.
