Written by a practicing attorney with experience representing clients in contested and uncontested dissolution of marriage and custody proceedings, Marital Settlement and Joint Parenting Agreements Line by Line is a comprehensive examination of two of the most commonly used agreements in every family lawyer's practice: a marital settlement agreement and a joint parenting agreement. It explains the reasoning behind the various clauses in each agreement, noting those which are crucial for a comprehensive and enforceable settlement between divorcing parties. The book covers such key topics as maintenance, division of assets, bankruptcy, division of retirement accounts, and child support within the framework of a marital settlement agreement. It also explains the terms and conditions of a joint parenting agreement with advice in key areas such as joint decision-making, removal, visitation schedules, and mediation. Marital Settlement and Joint Parenting Agreements Line by Line focuses on practice and drafting tips, making it a valuable resource not only for the family law practitioner, but also the general practice attorney, paralegal, mediator, or anyone who anticipates negotiating a divorce or custody agreement.
A CD-ROM is included, which provides PDF and Word versions of the book with a sample agreement.
