In Search of the Mahabharata: Notes of Travels in India with Peter Brook 1982-1985

Over many years, in the company of Peter Brook and his group, Jean-Claude Carriere crisscrossed India 'in search of the Mahabharata'. He travelled from city to city, village to village, searching for all possible theatrical forms of the great poem. Carriere collected a series of impressions, anecdotes, conversations, sketches made on the run; together they make this account of a theatrical voyage a surprising book, without cliches, showing India in a way it has never been looked at. This is a new hardcover autographed by Jean-Claude Carri re during his visit to Boston en-route to Los Angeles to be awarded an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement. He narrated a 90-minute version of the Mahabharata to standing ovations. A small number of books were autographed to sell as a fund-raiser for a non-profit. These books were left over and are being sold as part of fund-raising. As part of the fund-raising effort we tried to buy these books in bulk but it was out-of-print and we could only find 25 books in all of India. Even the printer did not have a copy to give. It is quite possible that these are the very last books left from the last print run in 2010. Macmillan India has no plans to print again and the copyright is held by a mystery department in the French Ministry of Culture where speaking English is strictly forbidden.
