Animal Dispersal: Small mammals as a model

The movement of individual animals from a population in one location to another is of considerable biological significance. The risks to the individual and the potential benefits - together with the fact that individual dispersers carry genes, other "information" and parasites - have many potential consequences for both the population left behind as well as the one joined. Interdisciplinary, this text connects together ecology, social behaviour, population genetics, evolution, animal physiology, epidemiology and conservation biology/wildlife management. There are three appendices that look at experimental design and analysis; techniques of radiotelemetry; and the use of radioisotopes in dispersal studies.
