A baseball legend in the grand tradition, he had won 224 games and pitched in five winning World Series. his career was truly a dream come true - a star high-school athlete from North Carolina, he was wooed to the major leagues at the age of 18 by Charles Finley of the then Kansas City A's, went on to several World Series, and them jumped to the New York Yankees in 1974.
