Description

An introduction to and examination of BICM, presenting analysis and design tools Presenting a detailed overview of the theory of Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM), this book will present the tools for the analysis and design of future BICM systems. It will give detailed explanations of all the functioning principles and design options used for BICM and will describe and demonstrate the developed tools that aim at refined probabilistic modeling of the reliability metrics. The exchange of these, the so-called L-values, is at the core of BICM systems. Since the L-values are random variables, understanding of their probabilistic models and the way these signals are generated and processed is crucial to the analysis and design of the BICM transmission. Iterative receiver structures are also developed in detail. Providing new insight into the analysis of BICM transmission, the book will be unique in its approach, providing a communication theory approach to analysis and design, focusing on the coding theoretic aspects. It adopts a tutorial approach, explaining the problems in simple terms and providing solutions using accessible mathematical tools and case studies to illustrate analysis and design. Presents an introduction to BICM, presenting analysis and design tools Offers explanations of all the functioning principles and design options Provides a unique approach, focusing on the coding theory aspects Examines case studies to illustrate analysis and design of BICM Adopts a tutorial approach, explaining the problems in simple terms and providing solutions using accessible mathematical tools A thorough treatment for researchers in academia and industry; graduate students; academics; development engineers; R&D managers.
