Thermal Design of Underground Systems

The amount of current carried by an underground transmission system is decided by its thermal characteristics. This new edition of a long-time standard in the field provides complete and detailed coverage of thermal considerations in the design of underground transmission systems. Special attention is paid to calculation of temperatures for artificially cooled systems and calculation of transient ratings—these calculations are made difficult by the nonlinear behaviour of the heat transfer in air and gases, and necessitate the use of computers.
