The Roman Villa: An Historical Introduction (Batsford studies in archaeology)

An examination of the origins and development of the Roman villas and their estates drawing on literary, artistic and archaeological evidence. In particular, it attempts to examine the villa as an institution, as a social and economic unit and as part of the life and history of the Roman world.
