Co-Deparent No More: Caring For Oneself While Parenting Adult Children

The purpose of this book is to help us as parents take better care of ourselves while we parent our adult children. It is to help us be 'co-deparent' no more! By co-deparent, I mean any parent who has a codependent relationship with their grown children. For I have discovered that if we do not reclaim our lives we stand the chance of not being any happier than our unhappiest adult child. By reclaiming our lives, I do not mean that we no longer try to help our young adults, but I do mean that we take as much care of ourselves as we do our children and find our own voice once again. Hopefully, this book will help increase our own autonomy (self-governing) and decrease our codependency (unhealthy dependence) in the process of taking better care of ourselves, as we try to help our grown children. Lastly, this book can be used in at least three ways. First, it can be used as a self help tool for personal growth as individuals and as couples. Secondly, counselors and other clinicians can use it as a source of information to assist in their work with their clients concerning these topics. Thirdly, it can be used as a guide to help with support and discussion groups.
