The 5th New Jersey Volunteers compiled a record of exceptional service and hard fighting from the early clashes at Williamsburg and the Seven Days through Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, and finally Petersburg. Using a wide-range of primary sources, including many never before published, John Hayward recreates and details the story of the 5th New Jersey and their experiences during the Civil War. The fortunes of the 5th New Jersey were directly tied to those of the Army of the Potomac, from the early struggles to ultimately helping pave the way to victory, the men of the 5th played a key role.
