Biomatrix: A Systems Theory in Graphics introduces Biomatrix Systems Theory. It is a meta-systems theory which integrates and adds to various concepts, models and tools derived from general systems theory, complexity theory and other related disciplines. It was developed in an interdisciplinary PhD programme at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. It co-evolved through the interaction of science (developing systems theory within and across various scientific disciplines) and application in discipline related praxis.
The purpose of this book is to put the visual representation of Biomatrix Systems Theory in the foreground. It illustrates how all concepts of the theory are contained within the biomatrix (the web of life) and how they co-produce it as a web-field continuum. It depicts in a coherent and increasingly detailed way how all systems are organised. This is achieved through a graphic alphabet. It consists of a few elements that combine to show all aspects of the theory and its application in a methodology for managing change in systems.
BiomatrixWeb, an organisation founded by Dr. Elisabeth Dostal (one of the co-developers of Biomatrix Systems Theory), applies the theory to managing organisational and societal change. For more information please visit www.biomatrixweb.com.
