Diaries, a book of remedies and recipes, and descriptions of the house and possessions of Eliza Cox Carter illuminate the life and times of a women who was simultaneously a sea captain's wife, a homemaker, and an unlicensed healer. Excerpts from her writings recorded between 1836-1882 have been edited and annotated to enrich their meaning for the modern reader. This volume provides a view into a specific era and place that form part of the foundation of modern-day New Brunswick.
