Based on several sources of experience and information, this book seeks to answer the questions: (1) Who are the owner-operators, and what role do they play in the transportation industry of the United States? (2) Are the owner-operators a transitory phenomenon or do they constitute a viable sector of the transportation industry? (3) How have other transportation organizations reacted to the owner-operator competition, and how may they do so in the future?
