This PROBE Journal, along with it's main volume (Unrelenting Faith, Vol 2: Rising, Walking), creates a new kind of commentary, a conversational commentary, written as if Paul were having coffee with you and talking about his own letter of 1Thessalonians—not in a typical verse-by-verse manner, but conceptually. The approach encourages a deliberately imaginative, yet faithful, contextual, and responsible interpretation and elaboration of the canonical writings attributed to Paul using carefully considered approaches and always in conversation with available scholarship. This series grew out of the author’s own frustration as a Bible reader and Bible teacher with the sheer number of Christians who merely want to skim the surface. Like a rock skipping across the water, that’s how a lot of people read the Bible, touching down only here and there and then sputtering to a stop. “Devotional” approaches (and far too much preaching) encourage this haphazard use of the Bible. This book pursues a different path. How different? Once you get past these introductory pages, once you arrive at “the Conversations,” every page is written as if by Paul himself, as if he is sitting across from you in a personal conversation.
