Description ▲
Hella Jongerius (b.1963) is a Dutch designer whose innovative creations first gained recognition in 1993 as a member of the renowned Dutch group Droog Design. She now heads her own Rotterdam-based company, JongeriusLab, designing a highly unique collection of products including ceramics, textiles, tableware and furniture. Eschewing the slickness and perfectionism that characterizes current industrial design, as well as the minimalist trends of the 1990s, Jongerius brings an emphasis on sensuous but simple forms, intriguing textures, and organic and malleable materials that often retain traces of their origin and making. Jongerius' objects are sold by Cappellini, Donna Karan, Swarovski, Maharam fabrics, and several companies in the Netherlands, her work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and several Dutch museums. This is the first ever book on Jongerius. Designed by COMA (a Dutch graphic design team working in Amsterdam and New York) in collaboration with Jongerius herself, it showcases her work of the past decade with specially commissioned photographs, an extended interview and essays by Louise Shouwenberg, who is a frequent collaborator.
